How Do You Spend July 4th?

July 4th serves as a time of nostalgia. It takes us back to simpler times, when water gun fights and how many hot dogs you had were your biggest concerns. We asked our staff about these lifetime memories and what their July 4th used to look like:

MJ:

“My family participated in a neighborhood parade where we rode in our dad’s pick up, throwing candy at the crowd and blasting Sousa’s The Stars and Stripes Forever. The parade ended at the neighborhood pool with a BBQ, horseback riding, and a petting zoo. Classic Texas.”

Jack:

“I would be at summer camp. We’d always go to the Aberdeen Ironbirds Minor League game in rural Maryland. We’d dress up in American apparel, buy concessions, watch the fireworks, and try to meet the players.”

Evan:

“Fireworks, cascading and lighting up the dark sky from near the sea in Santa Cruz. The fizzling flares fade away over the ocean waves, the smell of grilled food, and the company of those closest to you are what I think of when I reminisce about the Fourth of July.”

“It was just another day.  I'm Swiss, remember?”

Greg:

“We go up to Smugglers Notch, Vermont every year. There would always be the same group of people that would go up at the time, so we all became friends over the years. The resort always had a huge firework show with an army orchestra on the local green.”
