We love being the first. So does Ray Bellamy, the first African-American athlete on scholarship at the University of Miami — or to any major university in the Southeast in the 1960s. Needless to say, when he approached Orange Umbrella to design his book cover for his upcoming memoir, we were thrilled to help a fellow 'Cane who broke some serious racial barriers in his day.
THE ASK
This project wasn’t about increasing awareness, followers or even driving sales. It was about listening and building a client relationship. Working with Ray and his team was an honor. His ear-to-ear smile said more than any metric could. But if you’re into stats, Google him and you’ll find quite a few from his time as a wide receiver on the Miami Hurricanes football team. He then went on to try out with the New York Jets in the NFL.
